Is AlaskahQR really free?
Yes, AlaskahQR is completely free. You can generate and download unlimited QR codes and barcodes without signing up, verifying your email, or providing payment information. There are no watermarks on the generated images. The service is supported by Google AdSense ads.
Do I need to sign up or log in?
No, signing up or logging in is not required at all. You can start generating QR codes and barcodes immediately upon visiting the site. This minimizes the risk of personal data exposure as you don't need to create an account.
Is there a limit to the number of QR codes/barcodes I can create?
No, there are no limits on the number of creations. You can freely generate and download as many as you need per day, for any purpose. Both personal and commercial use are permitted.
Can I use it on my smartphone?
Yes, AlaskahQR is a responsive website that works perfectly on all devices, including smartphones, tablets, and desktops. You can use it directly from your browser (like Chrome, Safari, Firefox) without installing a separate app.
What types of information can be stored in a QR code?
AlaskahQR supports the following content types for QR codes:
  • URL/Website: Redirects to a specific webpage when scanned.
  • Text: Plain text messages.
  • Email: Pre-fills an email address, subject, and body.
  • Phone Number: Launches the phone app when scanned.
  • SMS: Pre-composes a text message.
  • Wi-Fi: Information for automatic wireless network connection.
  • Contact (vCard): Name, phone, email, and company information.
How can I change the shape of the QR code?
You can customize it in the [Shape] tab of the QR code generator:
  • Data Dot Style: Choose from square, rounded, extra-rounded, circle, or diamond.
  • Eye Style: Change the square patterns at the three corners of the QR code to square, rounded, or circle.
  • Margin Size: Adjust the size of the white space around the QR code.
Changes are reflected in the preview instantly.
Will the QR code still be scannable if I put a logo in the center?
Yes, it will scan correctly. QR codes have an Error Correction feature that allows data to be restored even if part of the code is obscured. When you add a logo, the error correction level is automatically set to H (30%), which means the QR code remains scannable even if the logo covers up to 30% of its area. However, setting the logo size too large can cause scanning failures, so we recommend keeping it below 20%.
If I change the QR code colors, will it still scan well with a smartphone camera?
In most cases, changing the colors works fine. However, to ensure high scannability, follow these guidelines:
  • Ensure sufficient contrast between the foreground (QR pattern) and background colors.
  • The foreground color must be darker than the background color (e.g., dark foreground + light background).
  • A light foreground on a dark background may fail to scan with some scanners.
  • Always test the generated QR code with your actual smartphone to ensure it scans correctly.
What are the error correction levels (L, M, Q, H) and which one should I choose?
A higher error correction level allows the QR code to be scanned even if a part of it is damaged, but it also makes the code more complex (denser):
  • L (7%): Simplest code, vulnerable to damage. Suitable for digital displays.
  • M (15%): Recommended for general use (default).
  • Q (25%): Recommended for industrial/manufacturing environments.
  • H (30%): Automatically set when adding a logo. The safest, but makes the code complex.
For most cases, the default level (M) is sufficient.
Which barcode format should I choose?
Choose the format that fits your needs:
  • CODE128: Most versatile. Supports alphanumeric characters. Used for office, logistics, libraries, etc.
  • EAN-13: International standard for retail products (13 digits).
  • EAN-8: A smaller version of EAN-13 (8 digits), for small packages.
  • UPC-A: North American retail standard (12 digits).
  • ITF-14: For logistics and shipping containers (14 digits).
  • CODE39: For industrial, military, medical fields; supports uppercase letters and numbers only.
  • MSI: For warehouse inventory management; supports numbers only.
How do I generate an EAN-13 barcode?
Select the EAN-13 format and enter 13 digits. The last digit is a check digit, automatically calculated based on the first 12 digits. For example, if the first 12 digits are 123456789012, you must enter the full 13 digits, like 1234567890128. An incorrect check digit may cause an error. For barcodes used in actual retail, you must obtain an official code from GS1 (Global Standards 1).
How do I add a product name to the barcode?
In the barcode generator's [Content] tab, enter the desired text in the "Product Name" field. The entered name will be displayed above the barcode. You can adjust the color, font size, and weight of the product name in the [Style] tab.
What file formats can I download?
  • QR Code: PNG format (selectable size: 512px / 1024px / 2048px).
  • Barcode: PNG format (selectable scale: 1× / 2× / 3×), SVG format.
For printing, we recommend high-resolution PNG (2048px or higher) or SVG (vector). SVG maintains quality at any size.
What resolution should I download for printing?
It depends on the print size, but generally:
  • Business card size: 512px or more.
  • A4 flyer: 1024px or more.
  • Poster/Banner: 2048px or more, or use SVG format.
For barcodes, SVG is recommended for printing as it remains sharp at any size.
Is the URL or text I enter saved on your server?
No. QR code and barcode generation at AlaskahQR is processed entirely in your browser. No data you enter—such as URLs, text, Wi-Fi passwords, or contact information—is ever sent to or stored on our servers. Your privacy is fully guaranteed.
